Coastal Computer Company, publishers of superb educational software since 1987, announces a new series of educational software: StudyBuddy for math. This series of software products puts math homework on the home computer. This has many advantages both for the student and the instructor.

StudyBuddy for Algebra

This program has sets of problems for each of the many skills that we teach in algebra I. These problems all use random numbers. After each problem there is an exact, complete step-by-step solution. After most lines in the solution there is a closed-book icon. Clicking on this icon gives a complete explanation of what was done on that line. For this explanation the program uses pop-up explanations and color highlighting. There are over 3200 hypertext links to 160 math definitions, laws, properties, etc. Just click on these links and a description or definition comes up. The explanations are exact down to 2 + 2 = 4.
When the student feels comfortable with a new skill, he/she may put a set of 10 problems on the score card. This score card is encrypted and tamper-proof. The students can turn these in either as a hard copy or by email.
Use of this program has given good results. Students definitely prefer doing their homework on their computers. It's easier and it facilitates faster learning. With hyper links and pop-up explanations, everything they need is on the screen. They do not have to refer to their books.
This program does not require the internet, plug-in programs, or anything else. It does exponentials, radicals, and all math expressions. Students are given this program without any instructions and they have had no problems.
This program does not replace a talented instructor like you. It just gives you a tool that makes you much more efficient.
